Congratulations to Peewee BB for an outstanding team effort as they won the City Championship. A thrilling and nail biting 3 periods of hockey along with 5 minutes of overtime solved nothing as they headed for the shootout. It took 6 shooters to determine the outcome as Hanna S went top shelf to secure victory. Led by outstanding goaltending by Kayla T, great passing, and a tremendous team effort from all of the girls, victory was achieved.

A special thanks to the coaching staff, fans, and in particular the players for an exciting finale to our regular season. Next and final stop, the Provincials. Go Ice!

Great work by the OGHA teams at the Kanata Tournament!
  • Bantam 3 Crunch won their division by beating the host team in the Gold Medal game.
  • Peewee 2 Arctic (who went 0-20 in the regular season) won the semi-finals vs. Kanata in their house after 4 rounds of shootouts. Great goals by Ella, Margeaux, and the game winner by Ryley, coupled with outstanding goalie performance by Caitlin, allowed the Arctic wind to blow into the finals! Huge parental cheering, and high spirits, were just not enough on the huge ice surface. The Arctic may have come second in the finals but came first in everyone's hearts!

OGHA Executive Congratulations to the OGHA teams who played in the Ottawa District Womens Hockey league championships on Sunday April 5th: Atom BB won silver in a close game which needed overtime to decide a winner. Peewee BB's game went to overtime and an extended shootout, where the Ottawa Ice eventually emerged the winner on a beautiful goal by Hanna S. Congratulations to both teams and good luck to Peewee BB who will play in the Provincial Championships in two weeks. Good luck as well to the Intermediate 2 house league team in the MOGHL championships on Friday, April 10th.

Midget B take Silver at the Huntsville Huskies Tournament  Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

The Midget B Ice came away from the Huntsville Huskies Tournament with the silver medal after a weekend of hard-fought games played in Burk's Falls. The Ice opened their series against North Durham with a 1-1 tie. Both teams started off slowly as they adjusted to the small ice surface, but battled hard to end the game in a draw. The second game saw our Ice dominate the Aurora Panthers, winning the game by a score of 4-0. The third game was the most physical of the tournament and ended in a 4-1 loss to the Clarington Flames. The final game of the tournament was a rematch against Clarington. The officiating was more consistent in the final and the girls worked very hard. The winning goal for the Flames was scored when one of their players crashed into the net, taking our goalie and the puck with her. The final score was 2-1.

Congratulations on the 2nd place finish girls. We are all very proud of your efforts.

Ottawa’s Midget BB ices Scarborough Sharks to take gold in Durham  Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

With a total team effort, the Ottawa Ice Midget BB shut down the quick and always moving Scarborough Sharks, winning 2-0 in a fast paced and somewhat strange final. The entire team executed their game plan perfectly, keeping the Sharks hemmed in and allowing them only five shots in the entire three periods of play.

The strangeness began as the Ice celebrated what they thought was their first goal, by Danielle on a feed from Megan on a beautifully executed two on one in the first period. Although no whistle was audible before the goal, it was waived off and the Ice was called for an interference penalty, leaving the team a player down instead of a goal up. It was one of 16 penalties generated by the referee, eight a side, leaving the girls on both teams wondering what call was coming next, and for what. But the team hunkered down, kept their cool and continued their game plan, eventually scoring from the blue line and then from some hard work down low.

Congratulations ladies!
