The Atom BB girls played four fabulous games in the Durham Tournament this past weekend. In the round robin portion of the tournament, the girls ended up in first place with a perfect 2 and 0 record. Earning the bye, the Ice again won their semifinal game in decisive form. However in the final against the powerful Sudbury Lady Wolves, the girls perhaps played their best game of the season. The Lady Wolves in their previous 3 games were averaging close to 6 goals per game. Down two of our best players (travelling to the Olympics), the girls dug deep to knot the game at one after regulation time. Strong defensive play, stellar goaltending and incredible heart shocked the sudbury team and resulted in a tie at game end. Overtime solved nothing and it went to a shoot-out. Sudbury narrowly edged the Ice, however it did nothing to tarnish such a stellar effort by the girls. The coaches and parents are, as always, extremely proud of you! Go Ice Go!

For years, Stephanie Steward has served countless hours helping girls in Ottawa learn to play hockey, develop their skills, make new friends, and engage them in becoming passionate about sports and fitness. On January 31, 2010, she will be formally recognized for her outstanding dedication to Ottawa girls’ hockey by being presented with the Celebration 2010 Award which recognizes and honours the unsung heroes of community sport and recreation.

By giving people the opportunity to participate in a sport they love, you are adding tremendous value to their life, and that work is truly immeasurable. From February 11 - 14, the OGHA is hosting the 2nd Annual Ottawa Capital
Classic House League hockey tournament and welcoming 59 teams from across
Ontario and Quebec. This year, we are bigger and better but the only way we
can succeed is through the support of volunteers and sponsors to help us.
Our Ottawa teams receive a discount to participate in this tournament and in
order to fund that, (and make the tournament run well!) we require a minimum
of 25 volunteer hours PER TEAM to help us make this a great event for
everyone! In addition, we are actively soliciting sponsorships (money and
gifts) to help cover the costs of running what is becoming one of the premier
girls' hockey tournaments in Eastern Ontario.
Please take 5 minutes to complete our survey by clicking on this link http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2GCRD2X
and let us know how you can help. By volunteering your time or donating money
or gifts in kind either as individuals or through your businesses, we can
continue to support girls' minor hockey in our community and put on a well
organized tournament for our players and visiting teams and families.
Once you have completed the survey, a member of our Tournament Committee
will be in touch with you soon to follow up. Thank you for your support and
assistance!
