Midget B Win Gold at Durham Tournament!  Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

WOW! Congratulations to all the Midget B players, team staff, and parents for a fantastic weekend and a championship celebration in Durham!

The weekend started with a long drive and an encouraging come-from-behind 4-3 win against Oshawa. The girls had a small setback later that day, losing 2-0 to the host Durham team in their second and final round-robin game but knew that they could beat them if they got another shot.

Saturday's thrilling quarter-final match was a 2-1 nailbiter of a win versus Napanee in a shootout. Esther Priddle scored the winning shootout goal while goalie Erika Leu stopped all three shooters she faced. Saturday evening's semi-final was a rough and tumble affair against a rested Aurora team who had won a bye to the semis. However our girls dug deep, scored two early goals and hung on for a thrilling 3-2 victory. Smiles all around and a trip to Sunday's final followed!

As predicted our intrepid Ice faced the host Durham team in the final game. This time the script was re-written and Ottawa once again built an early 2-0 lead. It was an intense back-and-forth struggle after that with Durham getting one goal back late in the 2nd period. However, in the game's final minute with their goalie pulled and Durham pressuring our end, co-captain Anitta Martignago dug the puck out of a scrum along the boards, headed up ice and sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.

Fantastic job, ladies! Your hard work all year has finally been rewarded! More and better pictures to follow :-)

Bantam B played with heart and brains and brawn, and brought home gold from the 16th Annual Durham Tournament. Sudbury beat us Friday, but we got the last laugh, and the championship, on Sunday. Our girls played their hearts out all weekend, going 2-1-1. The championship game was a 1-0 nail-biter, including killing off a 5-on-3. We always knew the girls were winners, and now the banner that proves it will hang from our rafters! Well done, girls!!!!

OGHA Executive In a large Intermediate division of 16 teams, Intermediate #1 handily won their first two games in the round robin and tied the third. Facing a tough Sudbury team in a quarter final game, Intermediate #1 pulled off a victory with just 29 seconds left in the game. In the semi final game on Sunday morning, they faced a Gloucester team in an extremely tight game that went to overtime. With a great team effort Intermediate #1 scored the winning goal preventing the need for a shoot out. A couple of hours later, Intermediate #1 played their 6th game in 3 days, meeting a strong team from Norfolk. Despite playing with several players injured and one not able to play due to injury, Intermediate #1 kept the game close, earning the silver medal with a 2-0 final score. Congratulations Intermediate #1 players and team staff on a great showing!

Peewee 1 Ice Chikas win nailbiter to clinch 1st place in OGHA tournament  Email Article To a Friend View Printable Version

The OGHA Ice Chikas fought a tough battle in the finals for Peewee Champion in the St. Pierre pool of the OGHA tournament.

The Ice Chikas ended regulation in a tie; the overtime period produced no answers with exciting chances at both ends. On to the shootout! Robyn, the third shooter and leading scorer for the Ice Chikas, put the puck into the back of the twine and then all eyes turned to the other end where the Ice Chika netminder Caitlin denied the Kingston shooter (one shooter at a time in this game).

The girls showed tremendous spirit and sportsmanship -- They Believe in the power of you and I, the theme from the Vancouver games -- all while standing arm in arm on the bench. Thank you to the team staff and the parents who also believe!
