For those of you planning your summer vacations and camps, please note that the OGHA is planning to hold its conditioning clinics the week of August 17-21, its top level tryouts the week of August 23-29 and the 2nd level tryouts the week of August 30-September 4 and the 3rd level tryouts immediately following Labour Day. While these dates are the same as the past couple of seasons, due to the lateness of the Labour Day weekend this year, it means that everything is technically bumped ahead one week in relation to the start of school. We hope that this advance notice gives families interested in the competitive program sufficient time to plan their holidays.

Congratulations to the OGHA Atom BB for a gritty win February 1, 2009 against a very strong Smith Falls team. The Sunday victory capped off an exceptional weekend for the Atoms, who finished the tournament with 4 wins and 1 tie, giving up a very stingy three goals all weekend. They won Gold with a combination of first-rate defence, uncompromising backchecking, a relentless forecheck, and sensational goaltending. The MVP scarf was cut into 14 pieces and given to each and every member of the winning team. This was a tremendous team effort!

The Peewee BB Ice had another good tournament in Whitby this past weekend. They went undefeated in the round-robin beating Sault St Marie 3-0, tying West Durham 2-2, then beating Whitby 3-1. With a bye to the semi-final, they played Whitby again and won 3-0. In the final, they met their cross-town rivals - Gloucester. They put in a strong effort, but fell 2-0.
This is the third time in as many tries this year that this team has made it to the finals of a tournament. They have not come home with gold yet, but they will... GO ICE!

The OGHA Midget BB team swept the Gloucester Tournament with 4 wins and 0 losses on their way to winning the gold medal. Ottawa had a pair of 3-1 wins vs. North Halton and Gloucester and a 1-0 win vs. Timmins in the round robin. In the final Ottawa faced the North Halton team again and won a nail biter in an overtime shoot out. Caitlin F. made both saves in the shootout to preserve the victory. The girls have won both of their tournaments this year and are off to Whitby next weekend to try and extend their tournament success. Good luck girls, play hard and show Southern Ontario how the girls in Ottawa play hockey.

They first beat Mississauga 4-1, followed by a 4-2 win against Brantford. On Sunday, they defeated Outaouais 6-0 in the semi-final.
